Why are Muslims running away?

Why do Muslims continue to not engage when offered the chance to defend their religion? Is it not time for the scholars and preachers of Islam to stand up and defend their religion?  Exmuslims are continuing to gain popularity and our arguments are being noticed.  I constantly get thank you notes from individuals appreciating my work and telling me I helped them leave Islam.  Yet nobody is really responding to my arguments or agreeing to discuss with me.  Look at the following and see if you notice any pattern.

EDIT: May 2022, I’m happy to say things have improved a lot.  There is a lot more engagement and debates between Muslims and ex-Muslims now.  This list will stay up for posterity

Dear friends and supporters,

I have spent many hours working on my blog and videos. Making videos is not cheap. It comes with a huge time investment and equipment needed. In total I have purchased hundreds of dollars of software licenses (Adobe Premiere CS), microphone and camera and lighting equipment and all that jazz.

Since I have personally put in my own money all along, I am now going to ask you to support me by subtitling my videos.

Does the Quran contain hate speech?

A Muslim once accused me of spreading bigotry and hate.  I told him that I do no such thing.  I stand for human rights for all, regardless of skin colour, race, religion, or sexuality.  I do however speak out against certain bad ideas.  Religions are ideas, and ideas do not have rights.  There is nothing wrong with discussing why you agree or disagree with Communism, Christianity, Nazism, Buddhism, Atheism, or Islam.  They are just ideas.

The Quran actually attacks not just disbelief, but disbelievers.  See for yourself!

Did Muhammad Split the Moon and Lack of Evidence

“The Hour (of Judgment) is nigh, and the moon is cleft asunder.” (54:1, Yusuf Ali translation)

“The moon was split ( into two pieces ) while we were with the Prophet (ﷺ) in Mina. He said, “Be witnesses.” Then a Piece of the moon went towards the mountain.” (Bukhari 3869)

Like the expression goes “From the mouth of babes,” we have glimpses of insight into life. 20 years ago, still not quite a Sunni Muslim, I was walking with my friend asking him questions about the religion. Eager to learn, I asked him “What miracles did Prophet Muhammad do?” to which he responded, “Prophet Muhammad split the moon.”

My face lit up, and I got excited! This was a fantastic revelation to me. This was concrete, substantial evidence that the religion was true. I eagerly said, “That’s amazing! So there must have been other cultures who saw the moon being split and recorded it, right? This must have been one of the world-changing events of the 7th century, a major event in world history that all of humanity recorded this incredible sight of splitting the moon.” It’s interesting that even back then I felt that evidence was valuable. That’s why I was eventually able to see my way through Islam.
